Into the Wild: An Adventure Leave Journey Down the Franklin River

Earlier this month, I was lucky enough to use Perspektiv’s Adventure Leave for something I’d been talking about for years: an eight-day rafting trip down Tasmania’s Franklin River with a group of old uni mates.

The trip was fully guided by an established pack-rafting company, with two boats, four people, plus a guide in each. From the moment we launched, it was clear we were in for something special. The Franklin is a World Heritage Area for good reason... vast, remote, and overwhelmingly beautiful in a way that’s hard to put into words.

We struck the perfect conditions: great summer weather, ideal river levels, excellent food, and even better company. Days were spent navigating powerful stretches of river, setting up camp deep in the wilderness, and soaking up an environment that feels largely untouched by time.

What stayed with me most, though, was how humbling the experience was. Being immersed in such a vast landscape and feeling the raw power of the river firsthand has a way of putting things into perspective. It gave me space to reflect on my own place within the world, how small we are individually, and how valuable it is to occasionally step away from the day-to-day to reconnect with something bigger.

Adventure Leave exists to make experiences like this possible, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity. I came back tired, inspired, and with a renewed appreciation for nature, balance, and the importance of taking time out to reset.
