Overview
Client: Solarshed
Industry: Construction / Infrastructure
Service Area: Carbon & Circularity

In the race to decarbonise construction, bold claims aren’t enough; stakeholders demand hard evidence.
Solarshed’s self-powered site accommodation units promised game-changing emission reductions alongside cost savings. But to build trust and accelerate adoption, they needed proof grounded in science and backed by robust data.
That’s where Perspektiv came in. Our sustainability experts transformed raw operational monitoring data into a compelling, credible performance story that quantified Solarshed’s impact in black and white.
The result: trusted evidence clients can rely on, and a stronger business case for sustainable site solutions.
The Challenge
About Solarshed
Construction projects across Australia are under pressure to reduce emissions while maintaining cost control. Solarshed’s units offered a promising alternative to diesel-powered site offices, but success hinged on demonstrating measurable, verifiable results.
Solarshed engaged Perspektiv to provide an independent, science-led analysis that would:
Prove emissions reductions using recognised methodologies.
Translate technical data into meaningful insights for asset owners and contractors.
Build a clear economic case for change.
Our Approach
We applied Perspektiv’s proven methodology for quantifying sustainability impacts:
Independent Baseline Establishment: Using the latest National Greenhouse Accounts (NGA) Factors, we created an industry-standard “business as usual” baseline for comparison with Solarshed’s self-powered units.
Real-World Data Analysis: Our team analysed detailed operational data from Solarshed’s remote monitoring platform, covering nine units deployed in Victoria, NS, and SA, across multiple usage profiles, climates and seasons.
Full Emissions Accounting: We factored in emissions from diesel refuelling and generator backup use to ensure the analysis captured the complete picture. Assumptions around vehicle use were refined to reflect the shared duties of site trucks, aligning labour hours and refuelling effort with real-world practice.
Economic Modelling: Beyond carbon, we compared the annualised costs of Solarshed units against a conventional diesel generator setup. On face-value terms, a conventional site office costs around $56,738 per year, whereas Solarshed delivers significant savings by reducing diesel consumption and minimising refuelling requirements. Additional savings opportunities, such as efficiencies from satellite compounds, were also identified for future exploration.
Solarshed’s Site Accommodation: The Results
93.9% lower emissions than conventional diesel generators
6.2% diesel backup use across all monitored sites
$56,738 typical yearly cost of a conventional diesel-powered site office - avoided with Solarshed
80 units now deployed across Victoria, NSW, SA & Tasmania (up from 5 in 2020)
10 days is the time it now takes to build a complete Solarshed unit
These results are not estimates or marketing claims; they are independently verified outcomes, derived from rigorous data analysis.

The Perspektiv Difference
Perspektiv’s strength lies in combining deep sustainability expertise with the technical capability to interrogate complex datasets. Our work gave Solarshed:
Credibility in the market – performance claims backed by science, not speculation.
Decision-making confidence – clear, digestible insights for stakeholders at all levels.
A powerful sales tool – independent evidence that speaks to both environmental and financial benefits.
“Solarshed has been working closely with Perspektiv since 2020, when we first launched our business into the industry. Over the past 5 years, we have learnt a lot about the efficiencies sites could gain by establishing satellite compounds at the work front. Perspektiv was able to use the lessons learned from onsite activities and convert them into a dollar and time value. Solarshed and Perspektiv were able to get a firm understanding of end-to-end carbon reduction by using Solarshed.”

Growing Impact
Since our first project together in 2020, when Solarshed had just five units operating in Victoria, the company has expanded to 80 units deployed across Victoria, regional Victoria, NSW, SA and Tasmania. Over this time, the quality and reliability of the units have been dramatically improved, while manufacturing capabilities have grown to the point where Solarshed can now build a unit from start to finish in just 10 days.
By proving that sustainability delivers bottom-line results, Perspektiv is helping Solarshed shift perceptions in the construction industry, turning climate action from a ‘nice-to-have’ into a competitive advantage.
When you have the right technology and the proper evidence, change happens faster. With Perspektiv’s expert analysis, Solarshed has the proof it needs to win projects, grow its market, and help the construction sector cut carbon at scale.
