
Custom Fleet recognised the rapidly changing landscape of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, including market trends, exposure to sustainability-related regulations and increasing expectations from customers and other key stakeholders. They sought to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned to their purpose of ‘driving a regenerative future.’
Background
Custom Fleet, a subsidiary of Element Fleet Management Corporation, is a leader in purpose-driven fleet services and intelligent mobility solutions. For almost 40 years they have been providing expert leasing and fleet management services to over 1,800 customers, including helping mining operations in remote corners of Australia, corporate clients across capital cities and retail businesses and supply chains that operate locally, nationally and globally. With sustainability being one of their five strategic drivers, Custom Fleet recognised the need for a bold, long-term strategy to address stakeholder expectations, meet regulatory requirements and deliver positive impact through their sustainability programs.
Objectives
Custom Fleet approached Perspektiv to develop a Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan to 2030, including prioritisation of material sustainability issues, target-setting, KPIs and actionable steps to deliver meaningful progress. Custom Fleet also sought interim actions to guide internal stakeholders and further embed sustainability into business strategy.
Approach
Perspektiv’s Corporate ESG consulting team implemented a holistic approach utilising desktop research, peer benchmarking and extensive stakeholder engagement to craft a bespoke solution for Custom Fleet.
To identify the ESG issues most relevant to their business, Perspektiv conducted a survey of Custom Fleet employees, and interviewed key external stakeholders including customers, business partners and community organisations. Using these insights, a materiality assessment was then undertaken with business and operational leaders, to quantify and prioritise the most material sustainability issues to Custom Fleet.
Drawing on subject matter advice of best practice sustainability standards and frameworks, Perspektiv then designed a Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan to 2030, including metrics, target-setting and detailed actions tailored to Custom Fleet’s business model, operations and supply chain.
Results
Key Outcomes
The project resulted in a robust materiality process that clearly defined Custom Fleet’s most pressing and impactful ESG issues to narrow their strategic sustainability focus. The Strategy outlined six strategic ESG priorities, alongside core KPIs to guide Custom Fleet’s ambition. The accompanying Action Plan was practical and innovative, addressing opportunities to implement AI, telematics, technologies and sustainability-related data to enhance sustainable outcomes for customers and drivers, as well as opportunities to deliver regenerative outcomes in the supply chain through supplier engagement and awareness.
The Strategy positions Custom Fleet to comply with emerging and current regulatory requirements and move towards alignment with best practice reporting standards including the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

The Strategy developed went beyond compliance and operational adjustments, allowing Custom Fleet to implement transformative changes aligned with the company’s core purpose, while addressing feedback from key stakeholders.
By establishing measurable targets and a suite of actions to 2030, Custom Fleet gained actionable milestones to track their progress toward long-term goals. Furthermore, the process fostered engagement and input across teams, reinforcing a shared commitment to sustainability internally.
